The Road to Europe Pt. 5
Hi guys
If you have been following the story so far you’d know that I’ve recently returned from a Rugby tour to Europe with Iron Armour Academy.
We left on Apr 5 2019 to Lyon France by way of Dubai UAE returning from Lisbon Portugal on Apr 16 2019 back to Melbourne Australia.
Check out the previous posts – Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4.
This is a summary of how the whole trip went! I’ll break it down into 2 sections: France and Portugal.
France
We played against Beaune Rugby Club about 2 hours out of Lyon (right in the Bourgoine/Burgundy wine region). We lost against U23 and won against their U18 team. This provided a great warm up for the World Youth Rugby tournament in Portugal.
Sight-seeing wise we managed to visit La Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière and wandered through the maze of terraced buildings in old Lyon town. I also got to meet Dan Leo (President of Pacific Rugby Players Welfare) and Ephraim Taukafa (3 x time Rugby World Cup player).
Portugal
Broken into 3 pools to play 3 games on Day 1 then final standings on Day 2. HERE are the results. In short we played 5 games, won 3 and lost 2 taking out the Bowl for the U19 competition! Successful campaign I’d say!
Thank you for your support and I look forward to the tour in 2020 where we aim to raise the level and come back with the Cup!
