Footscray Rugby Union Club Update

Hi guys

This is my first year at the Dog Pound and I am the Head Physio for the club.

This is also our first year of running the ProTrainer+ program.

So who are the ProTrainers? They are sports trainers who will be assisting us (ProPhysio+) with the medical side of the club and consist of University students who are studying a degree affiliated with something sports-related.

It is a valuable experience to work in a sports medical team at sub-elite level. We are looking after U18s, colts/U20s and 3 Senior Mens teams.

The start of the season for Senior teams began on 24th April 2019 whilst the colts/U20s are already 3 rounds deep!

It has been a steady ride thus far with all players and coaches being very welcoming which has made the transition a lot easier. So far there has been a couple of minor injuries but luckily there have been no major injuries that have sidelined players for a longer period of time.

Some players were blowing off some cobwebs from last season and carrying minor injuries which kept us busy.

Keeping a close eye on players who were injured and speaking with the coaches allowed for a smooth transition for players to return to full training.

This was made easy by having one document accessible to all coaches and trainers for all injuries to be documented.

When the Intensity increased I noticed some soft tissue injuries started to appear but it was mostly due to conditioning which gave us a good idea of what players needed to strengthen before round 1.

Overall it has been a steady start and my main aim has been making sure all players are ready for the start of the season.

Up the Doggies!
