5 Things A Physio Will Never Do

Dec 29, 2022 | Written by Aarvi | 0 comments

A physiotherapist’s main responsibility is to help restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. They also aid in preventing/reducing your risk of injury or illness in the future. Normally would involve a holistic patient centered approach. In other words, looking at the person as a ‘whole’ in the context of their physical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs.

However physiotherapists can get trapped when treating and can happen to wear all the hats of their fellow health professionals. So instead of referring especially when it is something out of our lane they can happen to get caught out and become the main overall professional for certain clients.

I have myself done this and then later on seemed to realize I am no longer their physiotherapist but a number of different health professionals to them which can make it difficult for us to treat and provide the best care that we can.

Here are the 5 things that a physio will never do Aarvi perspective:

❎Give out an exercise or plan that has not been tried by the clinician

❎Just reading a scan and/or jumping to a conclusion without a proper assessment

❎Not using a holistic patient centered approach
❎Give up when the going gets tough

❎Using motivation over discipline

These 5 points mentioned above are what I avoid using in my practice and daily life.

What are your beliefs that you do not want to implement into your practice/ daily life.
